September 2,2026,Cagayan de Oro City_In the last few days until press time , Kagay-anons have witnessed the presence of GSM Green taxicabs around the city.
Although the electric cabs are based in Barangay Taytay in El Salvador City in Misamis Oriental, these units have been plying the city's streets.
City Councilor Roger Abaday, disclosing his intended special report, told the Mindanao Reporter that he is against the operation of these electric taxicabs.
" City Mayor Rolando" Klarex" should have been consulted first before deployment of these GSM E-taxis in CdeO as Uy is the local chief executive. We, the members of the City Council, especially the Committee on Public Utilities, should have been at least briefed first before the deployment of these units. We acknowledge that the Land Transportation Franchising And Regulatory Board Region is the agency concerned regarding this matter, but our main issue here is the plight of the rlseivees and operators of the traditional taxicabs whose livelihood will be adversely affected. Even as we deem these units as supposedly environment-friendly, we also need to examine the economic effects of the entry of these E-taxis", added Abaday. Councilor Abaday akso stressed that the entry of these E-taxis should not displace existing traditional taxi drivers and operators and that this E-Taxi fleet must coordinate CdeO's LGU for a terminal permit and consult with the Roads and Traffic Administration. Abaday also said they the city council will invite LTFRB 10 Director Alexes Joseph Bendijo to shed light on this matter.
